The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of outstanding payments covering three years of Academic Intervention arrears owed to eligible personnel in public secondary schools across the country.
In a statement issued on July 7, 2026, and signed by Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, the GES confirmed that the payment represents a major step toward addressing accumulated financial obligations and improving staff motivation within the education sector.
The service explained that the disbursement is aimed at rewarding the commitment of personnel involved in the Academic Intervention programme while ensuring the continued success and sustainability of the initiative.
Three Academic Years of Outstanding Payments Cleared
According to the GES, the payment covers arrears accumulated over three consecutive academic years:
- 2023/2024 academic year
- 2024/2025 academic year
- 2025/2026 academic year
The settlement is expected to clear the outstanding financial backlog owed to qualified staff who have supported the delivery of additional academic support programmes in schools.
Beneficiaries Across Public SHSs and SHTSs
The disbursement applies to eligible personnel working in public Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) throughout Ghana.
The beneficiaries include both teaching and non-teaching staff who have played roles in implementing, coordinating, and supporting the Academic Intervention programme.
Teachers involved in delivering extra lessons, remediation activities, and academic support sessions, as well as qualifying administrative and support personnel, are included in the payment arrangement.
Supporting Student Academic Performance
The Academic Intervention programme was introduced to provide additional learning support for students who require extra assistance to improve their academic performance.
The initiative provides remedial classes and additional instructional support to help students meet promotion requirements and better prepare for major examinations.
The GES believes that clearing the accumulated arrears will help improve staff morale and strengthen the effectiveness of the programme by encouraging continued participation from educators and support workers.

Management of the Ghana Education Service expressed appreciation to all affected personnel for their patience, professionalism, and commitment despite the prolonged delay in receiving their payments.
The service acknowledged the dedication of teachers and support staff who continued contributing to student development while awaiting the settlement of their outstanding entitlements.

The GES said the payment forms part of broader efforts to improve working conditions for education sector workers and maintain effective academic support systems in schools.
By resolving the backlog, the service hopes to create a more motivated workforce and strengthen interventions designed to improve learning outcomes for students across Ghana’s public secondary schools.
