The Ghana Police Service has arrested 10 suspects following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered an alleged cyber fraud and human trafficking syndicate operating in the Mataheko-Afienya area of Tema.
Police investigations indicate that the group was allegedly controlled by a Nigerian national who used the location as a base for cybercrime activities, while also trafficking foreign nationals into Ghana and forcing them to participate in online fraud schemes.
Alleged Ringleader Identified
Addressing the media on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, named the suspected mastermind as Collins Francis Olayi Ojo, also referred to as Collins Francis Olai Ojo.
According to preliminary investigations, Ojo allegedly orchestrated a cross-border criminal operation involving human trafficking and cyber-enabled fraud.
Police claim that Ojo recruited and transported nine Nigerian nationals into Ghana by road using false promises before allegedly restricting their freedom and forcing them to engage in internet-related criminal activities.
Trafficked Victims Rescued
The Ghana Police Service said all nine Nigerian nationals who were allegedly trafficked have been rescued.
Authorities have moved the victims to a secure location where they are receiving protection, medical assistance, and other necessary support while investigations continue.
Police say the victims were allegedly confined inside an apartment and compelled to carry out cyber fraud operations under Ojo’s supervision.
Nine Other Suspects Arrested
Alongside the alleged ringleader, the Tema Regional Police Command arrested nine additional suspects believed to be connected to the operation.
The suspects include:
- Matthew Balogun
- Jahid Bello
- Abdul Rahman Nufizi
- Talent Sinibi (also spelled Sinivi)
- Prey Morrison
- Lawal Abdul Aziz
- David Ogogona
- Gift Prince
- Kingsley Honest
Police say the arrests followed careful intelligence gathering and surveillance before the raid was executed.
Laptops and Phones Seized
During the operation, investigators retrieved significant digital evidence from the suspected cybercrime base.
Items seized include:
- 28 laptop computers
- 9 mobile phones
The devices have been handed over to specialized cybercrime investigators for detailed digital forensic examination.
Authorities believe the analysis could provide further evidence about the scale of the alleged criminal activities and help identify additional individuals linked to the network.
Suspect Remanded, Investigations Continue
Collins Francis Olayi Ojo has appeared before the Accra High Court and has been remanded into police custody as investigations proceed.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify, locate, and arrest other possible accomplices involved in the alleged cross-border cybercrime and human trafficking operation.
The operation forms part of intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat cyber fraud, human trafficking, and organized criminal networks operating within Ghana.
