The Ghana Police Service has arrested 13 suspected drug peddlers and seized significant quantities of illegal narcotics following coordinated, intelligence-driven raids across multiple locations in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks in the region.

Major Arrests in Targeted Operations

One of the most notable arrests took place in Asawase, where police apprehended a 61-year-old suspect identified as Kwame Afriyie, popularly known as “Con Papa” or “American Man.”

Authorities describe him as a well-known local drug baron. A search of his residence and shop reportedly uncovered 81 compressed parcels of cannabis.

Asafo Operation

In Asafo, officers arrested another suspect, Kofi Acheampong, also known as “Mokobiley,” during a separate phase of the coordinated crackdown.

Additional Arrests Across Kumasi

Further simultaneous operations were conducted in Krofrom, Asokwa, and other surrounding areas, as well as at key regional transit points.

These raids led to the arrest of several additional suspects, including Serwaa Boamah, Nicholas Adorku, and Natson Yaaba, among others linked to suspected distribution activities.

Seized Narcotics and Contraband

According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit and signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, officers retrieved a wide range of illicit substances during the operations.

Items seized include:

  • Hundreds of sachets containing dried plant material suspected to be cannabis
  • Multiple compressed cannabis brick parcels
  • Wrappings of rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine
  • Large quantities of controlled pharmaceutical drugs, including tramadol
Ongoing Investigations

Police say all 13 suspects have been processed for screening as investigations continue into the broader drug trafficking network operating within the metropolis.

Authorities indicate that the operation is part of a wider strategy to identify, disrupt, and dismantle organized drug supply chains across the Ashanti Region and beyond.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at reducing drug-related crime and enhancing public safety.
