Seventeen-year-old Ghanaian-Italian forward Owen Nti Boateng has taken a significant step in his football career after signing his first professional contract with U.S. Sassuolo Calcio.
Boateng officially signed the agreement on August 10, 2026, securing his future with the Italian club until June 30, 2029.
The young center-forward currently represents Sassuolo’s Under-18 team, where he will continue developing his technical ability, physical strength and understanding of the game.
Boateng joined Sassuolo’s youth system on July 1, 2026, and required only a few weeks to convince the club to offer him a long-term professional agreement.
The decision reflects Sassuolo’s confidence in his potential and its determination to provide him with a structured pathway towards senior football.
Born in February 2009, Boateng is considered a promising attacking prospect capable of developing into a modern center-forward. His progress will be closely monitored as he competes in Italy’s highly regarded youth football system.
The contract offers the teenager stability at a crucial stage of his career. It will allow him to focus on improving his finishing, movement, positioning and ability to contribute to his team’s overall attacking play.
Playing for Sassuolo’s Under-18 side will also expose him to competitive matches against some of Italy’s leading football academies. These fixtures are designed to prepare young players for the tactical and physical demands of professional football.
Sassuolo has earned recognition in Italian football for identifying young talent and creating opportunities for emerging players. The club’s development model places considerable emphasis on technical education, tactical intelligence and gradual progression through its youth ranks.

For Ghana, Boateng’s emergence adds to the growing number of talented players of Ghanaian heritage developing in European football systems. Many such players have gone on to represent the Black Stars and Ghana’s youth national teams.
Italy could also consider him for its youth national sides if his performances meet the required standard. However, no final international commitment has been announced, leaving the teenager free to focus on his club development.
At 17, Boateng remains in the early stages of his career, and the professional contract represents an opportunity rather than a guarantee of senior success. His progress will depend on his performances, fitness, attitude and ability to adapt to increasingly demanding levels of competition.
The immediate objective will be to establish himself as a regular member of Sassuolo’s Under-18 team and contribute goals throughout the season.
