The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned that several parts of Southern Ghana are likely to experience thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall as a weather system originating from Togo and Benin continues its westward movement.
According to GMet, satellite and weather monitoring data indicate that the storm system is advancing toward Ghana, raising the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and intense rainfall across parts of the southern sector of the country.
The agency urged residents to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures, particularly those living in flood-prone communities. Motorists have also been advised to exercise caution, as reduced visibility and waterlogged roads could pose significant risks during the storms.
The weather alert comes after recent heavy rains triggered flooding in parts of Accra and other southern communities, causing damage to property, disrupting transportation, and displacing several residents.
GMet advised the public to monitor official weather updates and heed safety directives issued by emergency management agencies. Residents are encouraged to avoid walking or driving through flooded roads, secure loose outdoor objects, and seek shelter during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of lightning-related incidents.
Emergency response agencies remain on alert as authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather conditions. GMet says it will provide further updates as the storm system progresses across the country.
The agency has reiterated the importance of preparedness, urging the public to stay informed through its official weather bulletins while local authorities remain ready to respond to any weather-related emergencies.
