GRIDCo and ECG Announce Planned Weekday Power Outages in Parts of Kumasi

Some communities in Kumasi will experience planned power interruptions between Friday, October 30, and Sunday, November 29, 2026, as work continues on a major electricity transmission line upgrade.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) say the interruptions are necessary to facilitate the completion of the 161kV Anwomaso–Ahodwo transmission line upgrade project.

Outage Schedule

The planned outages will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on scheduled weekdays. Weekends are excluded.

The interruptions will affect communities along the transmission line route on the specific days when work reaches their sections. This means an individual community will not necessarily experience an outage on every weekday during the announced period.

GRIDCo and ECG said a detailed timetable would be published to show the affected communities and their respective outage dates.

Transmission Line Upgrade

The companies said the project had reached 70% completion and was expected to be completed by the end of November 2026.

The remaining work includes installing and stringing transmission conductors on towers along the route. Temporary interruptions are needed to allow engineers and other workers to carry out the work safely and protect the public, the companies said.

Once completed, the upgrade is expected to strengthen the transmission network and improve the reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and surrounding communities.

GRIDCo and ECG acknowledged the inconvenience the outages could cause households and businesses and appealed to affected residents for patience and cooperation.
