GTA Shuts Down Unlicensed Short-Term Rental Facilities in Kasoa

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has shut down several unlicensed short-term rental and serviced apartments in Kasoa and surrounding communities after operators allegedly failed to comply with repeated notices to register their businesses.

The exercise targeted accommodation facilities commonly referred to as Airbnb properties, as the authority intensifies efforts to improve compliance within the hospitality sector.

According to the GTA, the affected facilities were operating without the required registration and licensing. The authority also identified concerns involving mandatory safety assessments and tourism levy obligations.

GTA Accra West Regional Director, Richard Agyenim Boateng, said accommodation operators must meet the authority’s regulatory requirements before accepting guests.

He warned that owners who reopen closed facilities without completing the registration and licensing process would face prosecution.

The authority cited the Tourism Act and Legislative Instrument 2238 as the legal basis for the enforcement action.

Affected operators are required to visit GTA offices to regularize their operations, submit the necessary documentation and address outstanding compliance issues before receiving clearance to reopen.

The closures form part of a wider nationwide enforcement drive aimed at strengthening oversight of short-term accommodation, protecting guests and improving standards across Ghana’s hospitality industry.
