Kai Havertz scored the only goal as Arsenal defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday, November 1, 2026, to claim their first Premier League win at the stadium in 14 years.
The victory sent Mikel Arteta’s side three points clear at the top of the table and provided a response to their Carabao Cup exit against League Two side Fleetwood Town.
Havertz struck in the 16th minute after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker misjudged a pass to Jérémy Jacquet. Martin Ødegaard forced a turnover, allowing Declan Rice to deliver a low cross from the right for Havertz to tap in at the far post.
The goal took Havertz to 46 Premier League goals, making him the highest-scoring German player in the competition’s history.
Liverpool Unable to Find a Way Through
Liverpool enjoyed 57% possession and pressed for an equalizer, recording 28 touches in Arsenal’s penalty area in the first half—the most by a team against the Gunners in an opening half since detailed records began in 2008.
However, Andoni Iraola’s side failed to register a shot on target, a first for Liverpool in a Premier League match at Anfield.
The hosts came close in the 39th minute when Florian Wirtz struck the crossbar with a free kick. Liverpool also appealed for a first-half penalty after Jurriën Timber appeared to pull Alexander Isak’s shirt in the area, but no spot kick was awarded.
Arsenal Extend Lead
The result lifted Arsenal to 24 points from nine matches. Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday helped the Gunners establish a three-point lead at the top.
Liverpool remained fifth with 15 points, nine behind the leaders.
