Former Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament Mavis Hawa Koomson has been elected National Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing 783 votes against her sole challenger, Hajia Safia Mohammed, who received 429.
The election took place at the party’s National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Her victory places her at the helm of the NPP’s women’s wing as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking after her declaration as winner, Koomson credited her success to the vision she presented to delegates and pledged to honor the commitments she made during her campaign.
“I assure them I will fulfil my promises and I will not disappoint them,” she said.
The former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development expressed gratitude to God and said she had entered the contest confident of victory, declaring: “The Lord is my strength.”
In a separate interview with Metro TV, Koomson acknowledged that she had expected a higher vote tally but expressed appreciation for the support she received from the women delegates.
Her election formed part of a wider leadership contest in which the NPP chose national officers to oversee its reorganization. The new executive team will lead efforts to strengthen party structures and mobilize support as the opposition party seeks to return to power in 2028.
