High-Speed Chase in Tema Ends With Arrest of Armed Robbery Suspect

High-Speed Chase in Tema Ends

A high-speed pursuit through the streets of Tema Community 5 ended with the arrest of one suspected armed robber after a bank customer was reportedly attacked and robbed of a substantial amount of cash.

The incident began shortly after the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed for security reasons, withdrew money from a bank near Meridian in Tema.

According to reports by Class 91.3FM and Daily View GH, an armed man confronted the customer after he left the banking premises and forcibly took the cash from him.

The suspect then allegedly entered a waiting Toyota RAV4 occupied by four accomplices, and the group sped away from the scene.

Witnesses and occupants of a BMW who reportedly observed the incident immediately pursued the fleeing vehicle through several streets in the Tema municipality.

The chase eventually entered Community 5 and continued towards the Ship House area. During the pursuit, the driver of the Toyota RAV4 reportedly took a wrong turn, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.

Reports suggested that the suspects may have been foreign nationals unfamiliar with the local road network, although police had not publicly confirmed their identities or nationalities at the time of reporting.

Following the crash, residents and witnesses rushed towards the damaged vehicle and managed to apprehend one of the occupants. The suspect, reportedly dressed in a blue top, was restrained until police officers arrived.

The remaining four suspects escaped from the scene during the confusion. One reportedly boarded a nearby taxi to avoid detection, while others allegedly changed their clothing before fleeing on foot into surrounding communities.

The escaped suspects are believed to have taken the stolen money with them. The cash had therefore not been recovered at the time of the initial reports.

The Tema Regional Police Command has since taken custody of the arrested suspect and impounded the Toyota RAV4 for further examination.

Investigators are expected to inspect the vehicle, review available surveillance footage and interview witnesses as part of efforts to identify and locate the remaining suspects.

Police have launched a manhunt across Tema and neighboring communities to arrest the four fugitives and recover the stolen money.

Authorities have urged taxi drivers, residents and other members of the public who may have information about the suspects’ movements to report to the nearest police station.

The arrested individual is expected to assist investigators in establishing the identities of the other alleged members of the robbery syndicate and determining whether the group is connected to similar attacks on bank customers.

Police have also advised members of the public withdrawing large sums of money to remain vigilant, avoid predictable movements and request security assistance where necessary.
