OmanghanaHundreds of thousands of Iranians gathered in Tehran on Friday for a government-organised demonstration described as the country’s largest mobilization of its kind since the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel escalated.
Iranian state media estimated that more than 300,000 people participated in the march through central Tehran. Officials also said over 600,000 civilians had registered for military training under a nationwide campaign, although those figures have not been independently verified.
The rally formed part of the “Janfaday-e Iran” campaign, a name translated as “those who sacrifice their lives for Iran.” The initiative is intended to train civilian volunteers to support the country’s established security forces during emergencies or armed conflict.
Participants in the program are expected to receive basic weapons training, including instruction in the use of assault rifles. The volunteers could serve as an additional security layer alongside the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Basij militia.
The march also featured a public display of military equipment. Anti-aircraft systems, drones and truck-mounted machine guns operated by female guard units were among the hardware presented during the event.
President Masoud Pezeshkian joined senior government officials and military commanders to review the demonstration.
Participants carried Iranian flags and chanted slogans against the United States and Israel. Some demonstrators were also seen trampling on American and Israeli flags as the government sought to project unity and readiness to defend the country.
The mobilization occurred as Iran faces severe economic pressure linked to sanctions, conflict and restrictions affecting regional shipping and trade. Iranian authorities presented the rally as a demonstration of national resilience, military preparedness and public opposition to external pressure.
The scale of the gathering, however, was based largely on figures released by Iranian authorities and state media, and independent verification of the reported attendance and registration numbers remains limited.
