The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has decorated 22 senior officers promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police, charging them to strengthen crime prevention and improve security across the country.
The ceremony took place at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, with members of the Police Management Board in attendance.
The officers, previously Assistant Commissioners of Police, had each served at least four years in that rank. Their elevation followed recommendations by the Police Council and approval by the President.
Addressing the officers, Yohuno said the promotions recognised their dedication and contributions to the service while placing greater responsibility on them to meet emerging security challenges.
He explained that the new DCOPs would take on important leadership duties, including strengthening regional police administration, supervising operations and supporting the maintenance of law and order.
The IGP urged them to remain disciplined, demonstrate professionalism and set an example for personnel under their command. He also encouraged them to mentor younger officers and build closer relationships with communities to improve cooperation in preventing crime.
Yohuno stressed that public expectations remained high and that effective policing required experienced leaders capable of adapting to changing security threats.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, DCOP Ruben Asiwoko thanked the President, the Police Council and the leadership of the service for the confidence placed in them.
He described the promotion as both an honor and a renewed obligation to serve, pledging that the officers would work to justify their elevation through continued dedication to the country.
