Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted 25 police personnel for their exceptional performance in major operations targeting robbery and narcotics trafficking.
The promotions, announced on Monday, August 10, 2026, recognize officers who demonstrated courage, dedication and professionalism while serving in the Bono East, Tema and Western Central Police regions.
The personnel were involved in several high-profile operations, including the arrest of suspected highway robbers, the interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at Tema Harbor and the dismantling of an alleged robbery syndicate operating around Tarkwa.
Among the operations recognized was the investigation into a robbery on the Portor-Kawempe section of the Kintampo-Buipe Highway. The incident occurred on July 19, 2026, when suspects allegedly intercepted a victim and stole GH¢300,000.
Following intelligence gathering and an extensive search, police officers tracked down and arrested six suspects believed to be connected to the robbery. The operation was praised for demonstrating effective coordination between investigators and field personnel.
Officers assigned to Tema Harbor were also rewarded for their vigilance in intercepting 866 parcels of suspected cocaine. The seizure represented a significant intervention against the trafficking of illegal narcotics through Ghana’s maritime entry points.
Another team received recognition for arresting four suspected members of a violent robbery syndicate believed to have been operating in Wassa Akropong and other communities within the Tarkwa area of the Western Region.
The 25 beneficiaries include personnel from operational, patrol, intelligence and investigative units of the Ghana Police Service. General Sergeants, Corporals, Lance Corporals and Constables who participated in the field operations were elevated to their next respective ranks.
Chief Inspectors Bede Nwinbomeh and Joe Tetteh received promotions and automatic admission to the Ghana Police Academy in recognition of their leadership during the operations.
Several detectives were also promoted for their roles in gathering intelligence, identifying suspects and developing the cases that led to the arrests. They include Detective Chief Inspector Frank Dzah and Detective Inspectors Edem Ametowoga, Abroso and Vincent Dankwah.
The Police Management Board said the merit-based promotions form part of an ongoing effort to reward bravery, professionalism and exceptional service within the police administration.
POMAB noted that recognizing officers who distinguish themselves during difficult assignments could strengthen morale and encourage personnel across the country to maintain high professional standards.
The Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to supporting officers who demonstrate integrity and dedication while protecting lives, property and national security.
The promotions also signal the leadership’s intention to use performance-based recognition to improve accountability and reinforce public confidence in policing throughout Ghana.
