JUSAG Declares Indefinite Nationwide Strike From November 2 Over Salary Review

JUSAG Declares Indefinite Nationwide Strike From November 2 Over Salary Review

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike to begin on Monday, November 2, 2026, over delays in approving and paying reviewed salaries and allowances for its members.

The association says the government failed to meet its October 30 deadline for approval of salary recommendations submitted by the Judicial Council.

JUSAG General Secretary Abdulai Yakubu announced the decision at a press conference on Friday, October 30. He directed Judicial Service staff to stay away from work until the revised salaries are approved and paid in November, together with arrears covering January to October 2026.

Directives to Staff

JUSAG has issued instructions to members for the duration of the industrial action:

  • Security personnel are to remain at their posts to protect Judicial Service property.
  • Drivers are to return official vehicles to the Transport Department and refrain from operating them during the strike.
  • Registrars have been directed not to open court registries for official business.

The planned withdrawal of services could disrupt court administration and other activities across the country.

Salary Review Dispute

According to JUSAG, efforts to secure a review of salaries for 2026 began in December 2025. The association says the Judicial Council completed its work and submitted its recommendations to the President, but approval has remained outstanding.

Yakubu said JUSAG notified the National Labor Commission (NLC) of its intended industrial action on October 23.

The NLC subsequently asked the association to suspend the planned strike and requested that the Minister of Jobs, Labor and Employment Relations engage the parties to resolve the dispute.

Yakubu criticized the timing of the intervention, saying a ministry meeting had been scheduled for November 3, a day after the strike was due to begin. The NLC requested a report on the engagement by November 6.

Arrears Proposal Rejected

The JUSAG general secretary also rejected a Ministry of Finance proposal to pay the outstanding arrears in three instalments.

He said the proposal did not specify when the payments would be made and was presented without consultation with the association.

JUSAG maintains that its members have waited several months for the review and wants the revised salaries and outstanding arrears addressed.
