The government is expanding digital skills training at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with an additional 2,000 laptops to equip 40 new learning centers on campus.
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced the allocation during his working tour of the Ashanti Region. The expansion falls under the One Million Coders Program.
KNUST previously received 500 laptops for 10 training centers. The latest allocation will raise the university’s total to 2,500 laptops across 50 centers, increasing its capacity to accommodate learners.
Mr. George said the additional facilities would extend the program’s coverage within the university community. The new centers are planned for the campus, rather than separate satellite locations across the region.
The minister also indicated that partnerships with other tertiary institutions, including Kumasi Technical University, were being considered to broaden access to training.
His visit combined an assessment of the coding program with inspections of telecommunications infrastructure and rural telephony projects, as the ministry pursues wider access to connectivity and digital skills.
