Ghanaian forward Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer continued his impressive start at Mainz 05 by contributing to all three goals in a thrilling 3-3 preseason draw against Italian Serie A side Udinese.
The 24-year-old scored once and supplied two assists—not one as initially reported—as Mainz recovered from a 3-1 halftime deficit during their training camp in Austria.
His latest performance took his preseason total to five goals in five appearances since completing a summer transfer from Hamburger SV.
Königsdörffer Inspires Mainz Comeback
Sheraldo Becker gave Mainz an early lead in the fourth minute after receiving a pass from Königsdörffer.
Udinese responded strongly through two goals from Keinan Davis and another from Nicolò Zaniolo, giving the Italian club a commanding 3-1 advantage before halftime.
Mainz improved significantly after the break. Königsdörffer created another opportunity for Becker, who scored his second goal in the 49th minute to reduce the deficit.
The Ghanaian forward then completed the comeback by scoring the equaliser, ensuring that Mainz remained unbeaten during its preseason preparations.

Five Goals in Five Preseason Matches
Königsdörffer has adapted quickly to Fischer’s attacking system following his arrival from Hamburg.
Before facing Udinese, he scored in Mainz’s 3-0 victory over Holstein Kiel, finding the net alongside Phillip Tietz and William Bøving.
He also scored twice during the club’s 10-0 win against Sportfreunde Eisbachtal. His performances across the opening friendlies have brought him five goals in five matches.
His ability to play centrally or in a wider attacking role gives Fischer several tactical options ahead of the competitive season.
Pace Adds New Dimension to Mainz Attack
Königsdörffer’s speed has emerged as one of his most valuable qualities during preseason.
Early reports from the club’s preparations indicate that he has produced some of the fastest sprint figures in the squad, giving Mainz a direct attacking threat during transitions and counterattacks.
His pace, movement behind defensive lines and willingness to press opponents could become particularly important while Benedict Hollerbach and Silas remain unavailable because of serious injuries.
Against Udinese, Königsdörffer operated effectively alongside Becker in a two-man attack. Their combination produced all three Mainz goals and offered an early indication of how Fischer could structure his forward line.
Ghanaian Pushes for Starting Position
Königsdörffer joined Mainz after scoring five Bundesliga goals for Hamburg during the 2025/2026 campaign.
His preseason form has strengthened his case for a regular starting position, although competition remains strong within the Mainz attack.
The club will play its first competitive match of the season against VfB Krieschow in the opening round of the DFB-Pokal on August 23. Its Bundesliga campaign will begin later in the month.
If Königsdörffer maintains his current form, he could play a major role for Mainz during the 2026/2027 season while also strengthening his claim for more opportunities with Ghana’s Black Stars.
