Kotoko Seek Redemption as Karela Visit Baba Yara for Matchweek Five Clash

Kotoko Seek Redemption as Karela Visit

Asante Kotoko will look to return to winning ways when they host Karela United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 1, in Matchweek Five of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors head into the encounter following a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Aduana FC. With one victory, two draws and a defeat from their opening four matches, Kotoko need a stronger performance to regain momentum and restore confidence among their supporters.

The fixture also comes amid a coaching transition following Eric Tinkler’s resignation after the Aduana defeat, adding another challenge to Kotoko’s preparations.

Despite their inconsistent start, Kotoko can draw encouragement from their recent home record against Karela. They are unbeaten in their last six league meetings in Kumasi, recording three victories and three draws.

Karela, however, arrive with confidence after beating Hearts of Oak 1-0 in their previous outing. The Tamale-based club have scored in all four league matches this season, but their performances away from home remain a concern.

They are without a victory in their last four away league games, with a draw followed by three consecutive defeats. Having conceded at least twice in each of those losses, improving their defensive organization will be crucial against Kotoko.

Karela coach Nurudeen Amadu has described the victory over Hearts as an important morale boost ahead of the trip to Kumasi. His side will hope to carry that confidence into a fixture that has historically proved difficult for them.

For Kotoko, the immediate objective is to deliver a convincing response to their latest setback. For Karela, the encounter offers an opportunity to turn their home success into improved results on the road.
