The Atasemanso Circuit Court has sentenced a 22-year-old man to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labor after convicting him of robbing a woman in Kumasi.
Christian Owusu received the sentence on August 14, 2026, after pleading guilty to the charge.
The robbery occurred at about 12:21 p.m. on July 21 as the victim walked towards Konkromase Township in Kumasi.
According to the prosecution, Owusu threatened the woman and forcibly took her handbag, which contained an undisclosed amount of money and several personal belongings.
The incident was reported to the police, prompting the Ashanti Central District Police Command to launch an investigation.
Officers arrested Owusu on August 4 after gathering information connecting him to the crime. He was subsequently processed for court.
Owusu appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 7 and was formally charged with robbery. He admitted committing the offence and entered a guilty plea.
Before sentencing, the 22-year-old appealed to the court for forgiveness and asked for leniency.
The presiding judge, His Lordship Kwaku Baah Frimpong, nevertheless sentenced him to a minimum term of 10 years in prison with hard labor.
Following the court’s decision, Owusu was transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving his sentence.
