Countries Eligible for Visa-Free Travel
Under the updated travel protocol, citizens of the following 12 African countries can enter Liberia without a prior visa application:
- Benin
- Burkina Faso
- Cape Verde
- The Gambia
- Ghana
- Guinea
- Guinea-Bissau
- Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast)
- Mali
- Niger
- Nigeria
- Senegal
Although ECOWAS is made up of 15 member states, Liberia’s announcement specifically identifies these 12 countries as eligible for visa-free entry under the current arrangement.
No Visa Fees Required
Travelers from the approved countries will not be required to pay visa fees when arriving at Liberian entry points, including airports and border crossings.
The move is expected to make travel easier and more affordable for citizens moving across the region for business, tourism, education, and family visits.
Simple Entry Requirements
Eligible travelers only need to present a valid national passport with at least six months of remaining validity to gain entry into Liberia.
The simplified process removes the need for advance visa applications and reduces administrative barriers for regional travelers.
Warning for Travelers From Non-Eligible Countries
Alongside the announcement, the Liberian embassy also updated its travel information system with a warning for visitors who do not qualify under the visa-free arrangement.
Travelers from African countries outside the approved list must meet Liberia’s standard visa requirements. Those who submit incomplete documentation or fail to satisfy entry conditions risk having their visa applications rejected.

Liberia’s visa-free policy reflects broader efforts across Africa to improve freedom of movement and strengthen economic ties between neighboring countries.
