A large tree collapsed onto several vehicles along the road between the 37 Military Hospital and Kawukudi in Accra, causing significant damage to vehicles and triggering heavy traffic congestion.
The incident occurred on the busy stretch between the Kawukudi Traffic Light and the 37 Roundabout, disrupting the flow of traffic as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.
Several Vehicles Damaged
The fallen tree landed on multiple moving and parked vehicles, crushing parts of their bodies and leaving several with extensive structural damage.
Among the affected vehicles was a Toyota Vitz being used by a Bolt driver, which sustained severe damage after the tree came crashing down.
The incident left motorists stranded as the blocked roadway quickly led to long traffic queues in the area.
No Casualties Reported
Despite the extent of the damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
One motorist described what he called a miraculous escape, explaining that his vehicle had developed a mechanical fault moments before the incident. He said he had pushed the vehicle to the roadside, only for the tree to collapse shortly afterward, narrowly avoiding what could have been a tragic outcome.
NADMO Leads Emergency Response
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) responded swiftly to the scene to secure the area and coordinate rescue and clearance operations.
In a display of community support, a local motorcycle rider also assisted emergency workers by using a chainsaw to cut through large branches, helping to speed up efforts to remove debris from the road.
Clearance Operations Continue
Emergency responders have successfully removed the trapped vehicles from beneath the fallen tree.
However, work is still ongoing to clear the remaining trunk and larger sections of debris from the roadway. The partial obstruction has continued to cause heavy traffic congestion along the affected corridor.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes where possible until the road is fully cleared and normal traffic flow is restored.
