Methodist Church Opens Doors to Flood Victims Amid Devastating Accra Downpour

The Methodist Church has opened its facilities to provide temporary shelter for residents displaced by severe flooding following heavy rains that swept across Accra.

As torrential downpours inundated several communities, many families were forced to flee their homes after floodwaters submerged residential areas, damaged property, and disrupted transportation across parts of the capital.

In response to the humanitarian situation, the Church announced that its premises would serve as safe havens for affected individuals and families seeking refuge. Church leaders urged those in need to take advantage of the available shelter while emergency responders continue rescue and relief operations.

The flooding, triggered by hours of intense rainfall, left major roads impassable and stranded motorists in several parts of the city. Emergency services have been deployed to assist residents, while authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage.

The Methodist Church also called on members of the public, charitable organizations, and corporate bodies to support relief efforts by donating essential items, including food, drinking water, clothing, bedding, and hygiene supplies for displaced families.

Residents have been advised to avoid flooded roads, relocate from high-risk areas where necessary, and follow safety directives issued by the relevant emergency agencies as weather conditions remain uncertain.

The Church’s intervention comes as communities across Accra grapple with the aftermath of one of the city’s most significant rainfall events in recent months, highlighting the need for coordinated humanitarian support and long-term measures to improve flood resilience.
