Pupils at Bessakrom M/A Basic School in the Cape Coast North Constituency can now continue their education beyond Class Six within the community following the commissioning of a three-unit Junior High School classroom block.
The facility, which includes ancillary amenities, was inaugurated on Friday, October 2, 2026, addressing a longstanding shortage that required pupils to travel to neighboring communities for JHS education.
Cape Coast North MP, Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, welcomed the development, saying it would allow children to progress to junior high school without transferring elsewhere. He also thanked Bessakrom’s chiefs and elders for providing land for the project.
The commissioning brought together Central Regional Minister Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive George Justice Arthur and the MP.
Cape Coast Metropolitan Director of Education Thomas Kwofie also attended, alongside a representative of the Regional Director of Education, school management, teachers, pupils, traditional leaders and residents.
The new block is expected to provide a more suitable environment for teaching and learning while easing the burden on families whose children previously had to leave the community to complete their basic education.
At the ceremony, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to improving school infrastructure across the metropolis. It said addressing classroom shortages remained an important part of efforts to expand educational opportunities and support pupils’ academic progress.
