Nico Williams Reveals He Rejected Arsenal, Barcelona and PSG to Stay at Athletic Club

Nico Williams has reaffirmed his commitment to Athletic Club, revealing that he turned down offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Barcelona to remain with the Basque side.

Speaking after Athletic’s 4–0 victory over Getafe, the Spain international addressed comments by his agent, Félix Tainta, that had renewed discussion about his future.

Tainta had suggested during a podcast appearance that Williams considered a move in previous transfer windows, when several leading European clubs were prepared to activate his release clause.

The winger, however, stressed that staying at Athletic was his own decision and insisted that his commitment should not be questioned.

“My intention is to be here, it cannot be doubted… I am where I want to be,” Williams said.

By naming the three clubs he rejected, Williams sought to clarify his position following speculation surrounding those negotiations. His remarks underlined his desire to continue his career at San Mamés despite opportunities elsewhere.

Williams has also backed that commitment by extending his contract with Athletic until June 2035, strengthening his long-term ties to the club.

Paris Saint-Germain continue to feature in reports linking the winger with a possible transfer, but his latest comments make clear that his focus remains on Athletic and his future with the team.
