The “Nigeria” Oyo State Police Command has arrested members of a suspected syndicate accused of harvesting and selling human body parts for ritual purposes.

The suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted in mid-August 2026. They were later presented to the public at the police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Police said officers searching the suspects’ hideout recovered a freshly severed human heart, a human skull and other organs. The remains were allegedly being preserved and packaged for delivery to prospective buyers.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects may be connected to a broader underground network involved in the illegal trade in human remains.

According to police accounts, the network allegedly includes grave robbers who exhume recently buried bodies from cemeteries. Investigators are also examining claims that some victims may have been lured, attacked and killed before their organs were removed.

The recovered body parts were reportedly intended for sale to herbalists, suspected spiritualists and individuals seeking to perform so-called money rituals.

The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators with information about the alleged network’s activities, suppliers and customers.

Authorities have also launched a manhunt for other suspected members of the group who remain at large. Investigators are seeking to identify and arrest individuals believed to have ordered or financed the harvesting of the recovered body parts.

The Oyo State Police Command warned people involved in ritual killings and the illegal trade in human remains that security operations would be intensified across the state.

Police urged members of the public to report suspicious activities, particularly around cemeteries and isolated locations, to the nearest security agency.
