The Akyem Abomosu Police Command has arrested nine suspects during a targeted security operation aimed at dismantling illegal drug trafficking networks and curbing commercial sex activities within the community.
The intelligence-led operation, conducted in identified crime hotspots, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to combat organized criminal activity and improve public safety in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.
Nine Suspects Taken into Custody
The suspects arrested during the operation comprise:
- Three Nigerian women
- Six Ghanaian men
Police say the suspects were apprehended during coordinated raids on locations believed to be associated with the sale of illegal narcotics and commercial sex activities.
Operation Led by Police Forward Operating Unit
The security exercise was spearheaded by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Ehuren, Commander of the Police Forward Operating Unit (FPU).
Officers carried out searches at several locations within Akyem Abomosu, targeting areas that had been identified through intelligence gathering as centers for suspected criminal activities.
During the operation, police recovered a quantity of suspected illicit substances, including Indian hemp and other narcotics, along with additional items believed to be connected to illegal drug distribution.
The seized items have been retained as evidence to support ongoing investigations.
Suspects to Face Court
Police have confirmed that all nine suspects are being processed for prosecution and are expected to be arraigned before the Osino Magistrate Court to answer charges related to the alleged offences.
Investigations are continuing as authorities work to determine whether the suspects are linked to wider criminal networks operating in the area.
Traditional Authorities Welcome the Exercise
The operation has received praise from local traditional leaders, who say it reflects a growing commitment to tackling crime and protecting the community.
According to reports, the Asonahene of Akyem Abomosu, Nana Kofi Agyei, commended the police for the successful operation and encouraged security agencies to sustain the campaign against drug trafficking, prostitution, and other criminal activities affecting the area.
He noted that the exercise aligns with ongoing community efforts to restore order and promote a safer environment for residents.
Ongoing Fight Against Crime
The Ghana Police Service has intensified operations across several parts of the country in recent months as part of broader efforts to combat narcotics trafficking, organized crime, and other social vices.
Authorities have urged members of the public to support law enforcement by providing timely information on criminal activities, stressing that community cooperation remains essential to maintaining law and order.
