The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with a violent robbery targeting a mobile money vendor at Fiapre-Zongo.
The attack, which occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, left two people dead and three others injured. The assailants reportedly escaped with GH¢30,000 in cash after firing shots to intimidate residents.
According to information surrounding the incident, the suspects allegedly jumped from a moving cattle truck travelling along the Fiapre-Berekum Highway before launching the attack.
The group targeted 30-year-old mobile money vendor Amina Abu. During the confrontation, several people in the area were struck by gunfire.
One of the victims, identified as 40-year-old Ibrahim Osei, was reportedly shot after leaving his room during the incident. He sustained fatal injuries.
Another man, whose identity has not yet been established, was found severely injured behind a house. He was wearing a mask when he was discovered and later died at the hospital.
Amina Abu was injured during the attack, together with 23-year-old Khadija Abu and 24-year-old Anifa Tanko. The three victims were transported to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Following the robbery, the suspects reportedly attempted to escape in the same cattle truck used to reach the area.
Police officers quickly coordinated with personnel stationed at the Twumasikrom checkpoint to intercept the vehicle. The operation resulted in the arrest of nine suspects believed to be connected to the robbery.
The suspects are expected to assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the attack, the roles played by each individual and whether other accomplices were involved.
Investigators are also expected to establish the identity of the masked man and clarify how he became involved in the incident.
The deadly robbery has renewed concerns about attacks on mobile money operators, who frequently handle substantial amounts of cash while operating in locations with limited security.
The Bono Regional Police Command is expected to continue its investigation as efforts are made to recover the stolen money and any weapons used during the attack.
