The National Petroleum Authority has announced the death of its Deputy Chief Executive, Dr. Dramani Bukari, popularly known as “Ecomog.”
Dr. Bukari reportedly passed away in London after a short illness. The nature of the illness has not been disclosed.
In a statement announcing his passing, the Board and Management of the NPA expressed profound sorrow and described his death as an enormous loss to the institution and Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
“Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return,” the Authority stated, referencing Qur’an 2:156.
The NPA extended its condolences to Dr. Bukari’s family, colleagues and loved ones as they mourn his sudden death.
Tributes have also emerged from political figures, industry professionals and residents of the Damongo Constituency, where he had strong ties. He has been remembered as a dedicated professional, a fine gentleman and a committed contributor to Ghana’s energy sector.
Dr. Bukari was an accomplished energy specialist with extensive knowledge of petroleum pricing, taxation and energy systems. He held a Master of Science degree in Energy Economics, which he obtained with distinction, as well as a doctorate in Sustainable Energy Technologies.
His academic and professional background provided him with significant expertise in the regulation and development of Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
Before his appointment as Deputy Chief Executive of the NPA, Dr. Bukari served as Director of Entrepreneurship, Partnerships and Investments at the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre. In that role, he contributed to initiatives supporting climate-focused businesses, sustainable investment and energy innovation.
At the NPA, he brought technical knowledge to the Authority’s work in petroleum pricing, regulatory policy and taxation. His death leaves a significant professional void within the institution at a time when Ghana’s petroleum sector continues to undergo important regulatory and market reforms.
Details concerning the repatriation of his remains and final funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. The family and relevant authorities are expected to provide further information at a later date.
