The driver was found burnt beyond recognition, while the truck’s mate survived the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Akuse Hospital.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the fuel tanker fully engulfed in flames, with the diesel cargo already ignited.
Despite the intensity of the fire and the risks associated with fuel combustion, crews managed to bring the situation under control by 06:03 AM, before fully extinguishing the fire at 06:30 AM.
Their swift action prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures, vehicles, and the surrounding community—averting what officials described as a potentially far more devastating disaster.
Casualty and Rescue Efforts
Tragically, the tanker driver was discovered dead at the scene after being trapped in the burning vehicle. His remains were severely burnt, making immediate identification difficult.
The truck’s mate, however, was rescued alive and quickly transported to Akuse Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during the incident.
Hospital sources say he is currently in stable condition and under observation.

The tanker and its entire diesel load were completely destroyed in the fire, resulting in significant material loss.
