At least one person has reportedly died in a suspected hit-and-run crash at Wassa Agona on the road connecting the community to Bonsa, near Tarkwa in the Western Region.
The incident reportedly occurred close to the Wassa Agona cemetery, where an unidentified vehicle allegedly struck a pedestrian and left the scene without offering assistance.
The severity of the impact left the victim with fatal injuries and created a disturbing scene on the road. The identity of the deceased has not yet been made public.
Residents and motorists who arrived at the scene raised an alarm and alerted the appropriate authorities. Police personnel subsequently secured the area, managed traffic and supervised the removal of the victim’s remains.
The incident caused considerable distress among commuters using the busy corridor and temporarily disrupted the movement of vehicles.
Police have reportedly commenced investigations to identify the vehicle and driver involved in the crash. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation has been encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about speeding, poor visibility and delayed emergency assistance on roads connecting communities within the Tarkwa area. Motorists have been urged to reduce their speed, remain alert and stop to provide assistance or notify emergency services when involved in a collision.
