Canadian-listed exploration company Ongwe Minerals has identified a continuous six-kilometer gold anomaly at its newly discovered Nguni prospect in Namibia.
The company is preparing to begin its first drilling campaign at the site later this month. The planned program will include 5,000 meters of diamond and reverse circulation drilling to test the mineralized system beneath the surface.
The discovery, reported by journalist Ayodeji Adegboyega, could contribute to the expansion of Namibia’s gold industry while supporting efforts to reduce the country’s traditional economic dependence on diamonds.
Soil Sampling Produces Encouraging Gold Results
Ongwe Minerals conducted an intensive infill soil-sampling program across the prospect using a 50-metre-by-50-metre grid.
A total of 1,605 samples were collected and analyzed. More than 50 returned gold concentrations exceeding 300 parts per billion, while the strongest result reached 1,310 parts per billion.
The results allowed the exploration team to outline a continuous anomaly extending for approximately six kilometers.
While soil assays do not confirm the size or grade of an underground deposit, they can help identify priority areas for drilling and further geological investigation.
Gold Anomaly Remains Open in Multiple Directions
The defined anomaly remains open to the north, east and west, meaning exploration work has not yet established its full boundaries in those directions.
Ongwe Minerals believes this leaves room for the mineralized system to extend beyond the area currently mapped.
Further soil sampling, geological mapping and drilling will be required to determine the scale, continuity and economic potential of the discovery.
Nguni Located Along Major Geological Structure
The Nguni prospect forms part of Ongwe Minerals’ broader Omatjete Gold Project.
It is situated near granitic contacts along the Okondeka Fault Zone, a geological structure considered favorable for gold mineralization.
The structural trend also hosts WIA Gold’s Kokoseb deposit, which has a reported gold resource of approximately 2.93 million ounces. Nguni’s location along the same regional trend has increased interest in its exploration potential, although drilling is required to establish what lies beneath the surface.
Maiden Drilling Campaign Planned
The upcoming 5,000-metre drilling program will combine diamond drilling with reverse circulation techniques.
Reverse circulation drilling is expected to help the company test targets efficiently across the wider anomaly, while diamond drilling will produce rock core that can provide more detailed information about geological structures and mineralization.
The campaign will be the first direct test of Nguni’s underground potential.
Experienced Team Leads Exploration
Ongwe Minerals is led by Chief Executive Officer Dave Underwood, whose executive and technical team has extensive experience in Namibian mineral exploration.
Members of the core team previously founded Osino Resources and helped advance Namibia’s Twin Hills gold project. Osino was later acquired by Shanjin International in a transaction valued at approximately CAD$368 million.
Underwood described the early exploration results at Nguni as outlining a “very robust target with district-scale potential.”
The planned drilling campaign will provide the first significant indication of whether the extensive surface anomaly is connected to a substantial underground gold system.
