The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, received a rousing welcome from thousands of residents, traditional leaders and senior security officials when he returned to Kumasi on Thursday following a 10-day working visit to the United States.
The Asantehene’s flight landed at the Prempeh I International Airport at about 12:30 p.m., where a ceremonial guard of honour had been assembled to receive him.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana National Fire Service jointly mounted the guard of honour.
Traditional chiefs, government officials, representatives of public institutions and groups of students were also present at the airport to welcome the Asantehene.
Following the formal reception, Otumfuo’s convoy travelled through several major streets in Kumasi before arriving at the Manhyia Palace for customary welcome rites.
Large crowds gathered along routes including Krofrom, Suame, Abrepo, Bantama, Komfo Anokye, Kejetia, Asafo and Amakom.
Some residents waved Asante flags, while others chanted praises and blew traditional horns as the royal motorcade passed through the city.
The Asantehene’s visit to the United States focused on cultural diplomacy, education, traditional leadership and investment promotion.
A major highlight was the Grand Akwasidae Kɛse celebration held at Bowie State University in Maryland on August 30.
The event, which marked the sixth Akwasidae celebration, was organised under the theme, “A Legacy of Unity, a Future of Excellence.”
It attracted thousands of Asantes, Ghanaians and members of the wider African diaspora from different parts of North America.
During his stay in Washington, D.C., Otumfuo also delivered a guest lecture at Howard University.
His address focused on governance, cultural preservation, traditional leadership and the enduring relationship between Ghana and the global African diaspora.
The Asantehene further held meetings with representatives of the United States Chamber of Commerce and participated in the Africa Business and Investment Summit.
The discussions were intended to promote foreign investment opportunities in the Ashanti Region and Ghana’s broader economy.
Otumfuo’s engagements formed part of efforts to strengthen relations with the Ghanaian diaspora while using traditional leadership and cultural diplomacy to support national development.
