The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service have announced the release of the 2026 Computerized School Selection and Placement System results, with 527,932 candidates securing admission to second-cycle institutions.
The placements cover Senior High Schools, Senior High Technical Schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions across the country.
According to figures released by the education authorities, approximately 87.3 percent of qualified candidates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination were successfully placed through the automated system.
Of the total number placed, 276,521 are female and 251,411 are male.
The placement data also revealed a significant imbalance in candidates’ school choices. Category A institutions remained heavily oversubscribed, while many Category B and Category C schools recorded unfilled spaces.
More than 313,283 candidates reportedly selected Category A schools as their first choice, despite only about 76,417 vacancies being available in those institutions.
The Ministry of Education and GES explained that the mismatch between demand and available spaces prevented some candidates from being placed in their preferred schools, even when they had strong examination results.
Candidates can check their placement status free of charge through the official CSSPS portal at cssps.gov.gh. They will need their 10-digit BECE index number and date of birth to access the results.
Students who were not automatically assigned to any of their selected schools can use the Self-Placement module. The option allows candidates to choose from institutions and academic programmes that still have vacancies.
Candidates using the module have been advised to carefully consider a school’s location, residential status, programme availability and accommodation arrangements before confirming their selection.
First-year students are scheduled to report to their respective institutions on September 18, 2026, to begin registration and enrolment processes.
