Palm Beach International Airport has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, becoming the first airport in the United States to bear the name of a sitting U.S. president.
The name change took effect on Thursday, July 9, 2026, following legislation signed earlier this year by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The airport, located just a few miles from President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in West Palm Beach, will undergo a phased transition over the coming weeks as signage, branding, and operational systems are updated.
Airport Codes Transition to New Designation
As part of the renaming process, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has updated the airport’s official location identifiers from PBI to DJT, while the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) identifier has changed to KDJT.
However, passengers booking flights will continue using the familiar PBI airport code until August 18, when the International Air Transport Association (IATA) officially completes its transition to the new designation.
Major airlines, including United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, have already begun updating their reservation and baggage systems to accommodate the change while ensuring uninterrupted travel operations during the transition period.
Multi-Million-Dollar Rebranding Underway
Officials estimate the complete renaming project will cost approximately $5.5 million.
The State of Florida is funding half of the total cost—about $2.75 million—while the remaining expenses will be covered by the local Department of Airports.
The rebranding effort includes replacing highway signs along Interstate 95, updating terminal signage, modifying digital displays, and changing official airport branding throughout the facility. Authorities expect the work to be completed in phases over the coming weeks.
Trump Force One Marks Historic First Landing
According to Eric Trump, Trump Force One, the president’s private aircraft, became the first plane to land at the airport under its new name.
The aircraft reportedly touched down at 5:01 a.m. on Thursday, symbolically marking the beginning of the airport’s new chapter.
Legal Framework Behind the Renaming
The renaming follows the passage of a Florida state law, approved largely along party lines, granting the state authority to designate names for its major commercial airports.
Because the Trump Organization owns trademarks associated with the president’s name, Palm Beach County entered into a licensing agreement to secure perpetual and unrestricted use of the new airport name without paying royalty fees.
Despite opposition from some local residents and the filing of two legal challenges, county officials have stated that the renaming affects only the airport’s branding. Ownership, management, and daily operations of the airport remain unchanged.
Broader Recognition Efforts Continue
The airport renaming comes as other efforts to honor President Trump continue across the United States.
A proposal by House Republicans to rename Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after the president has yet to advance at the federal level. Meanwhile, officials in Tennessee held a separate ceremony to rename a bridge along Interstate 40 in his honor.
The renaming of Palm Beach International Airport represents one of the most prominent tributes to President Trump during his time in office and marks a significant milestone in the airport’s history as it begins operating under its new identity.
