Per Narvinger Takes Helm at Ericsson as Company Reshapes Executive Team

Ericsson

Ericsson has ushered in a new leadership team, with Per Narvinger succeeding Börje Ekholm as President and Chief Executive Officer alongside changes at its Networks business and Vonage subsidiary.

Narvinger’s appointment took effect on October 1, 2026, following a succession process overseen by the company’s board. Ekholm stepped down on September 30 after more than nine years as chief executive and will serve as an executive adviser until June 15, 2027. He also left Ericsson’s board on October.

Having joined Ericsson in 1997, Narvinger brings experience spanning research, product development, sales and senior management. Before becoming CEO, he led Business Area Networks and previously headed Cloud Software and Services.

Ericsson’s board chairman, Jan Carlson, cited Narvinger’s technical knowledge and commercial experience as key strengths. Narvinger has identified growing demand for advanced connectivity to support artificial intelligence as an important opportunity for the company.

David Hammarwall succeeded Narvinger as Head of Business Area Networks and Senior Vice President, also effective October 1. Previously responsible for Ericsson’s T-Mobile customer unit in the Americas, he joins the executive team and reports directly to the new CEO.

Hammarwall joined Ericsson in 2007 and has held several senior product and technology positions, including leadership roles in radio and 5G network development.

The leadership changes also extend to Vonage, where Christophe Van de Weyer was appointed CEO and Head of Business Area Global Communications Platform, succeeding Niklas Heuveldop in the transition effective August 15, 2026.

Van de Weyer joined Vonage in 2025 to lead its API business. His responsibilities have included pursuing profitable growth in Communications Platform as a Service and network APIs, which allow businesses and developers to incorporate communications and network capabilities into digital services.

Heuveldop remains available until December 31, 2026, to support the handover. The company has positioned the transition as part of its effort to strengthen Vonage’s performance and expand its enterprise communications business.
