
Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an alleged armed robbery attempt on the Hiakose-Newense stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.
The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after reportedly seeking medical attention for a gunshot wound he allegedly sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.
According to the Nkawie Divisional Police Command, its operations patrol team received a distress call at about 11:00 p.m. reporting an armed robbery in progress along the Hiakose-Newense road.
Officers who responded to the call said they heard gunshots while approaching the scene.
They subsequently spotted one of the suspected robbers fleeing into a nearby bush with a bag and pursued him.
A search of the area later led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims.
The police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had reported to a medical facility for treatment after allegedly sustaining a gunshot wound.
Officers proceeded to the facility and arrested Nsiah.
Police said the suspect had sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock and is currently receiving treatment under police guard.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery, determine how Nsiah sustained the injury and identify other individuals who may have been involved in the incident.
