The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 40-year-old farmer, Roger Borbobli, after allegedly finding 91 parcels of suspected Indian hemp in his possession at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The arrest took place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after workers at the terminal detected an unusual smell coming from three suitcases and alerted the police.
Officers from the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police responded and intercepted the suspect. A search of the suitcases reportedly uncovered 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Police said Borbobli reportedly valued the substances at GH¢33,600.
Suspect assisting investigations
According to police, Borbobli told investigators that he is a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta Region.
Police said he allegedly disclosed that he cultivated Indian hemp but claimed the parcels found in his possession had been obtained from another farmer in the same community, identified only as Benjamin.
The seized substances are expected to be sent to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis.
Borbobli remains in police custody as investigations continue and is expected to appear before court.
