The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged lynching of a young man at Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
The victim reportedly suffered fatal injuries after he was accused of theft and attacked by a group of young people in the community.
According to preliminary information, the mob assaulted the young man before law enforcement officers could intervene. He later died from the injuries sustained in the attack.
Two Suspects Detained
Following the incident, personnel from the Savannah Regional Police Command launched an investigation and began gathering intelligence to identify those allegedly involved.
The operation led to the arrest of two primary suspects believed to have participated in or helped organize the assault.
Both suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators with efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.
Police are expected to place them before a court on provisional charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The allegations against them remain subject to investigation and judicial determination.
Police Pursue Other Suspects
Security authorities have also launched a targeted manhunt for additional suspects believed to have taken part in the mob attack.
Some of the alleged accomplices reportedly fled Daboya following the victim’s death. Police intelligence teams are working to determine their locations and secure their arrests.
Residents with information that could assist the investigation have been encouraged to cooperate with the authorities.
Police Condemn Mob Justice
The police administration has strongly condemned the killing and warned the public against resorting to mob violence or so-called instant justice.
It stressed that suspicion or an accusation of wrongdoing does not authorize members of the public to assault or kill another person.
Traditional leaders, youth groups and community residents have been urged to report suspected offenders to the police and allow the justice system to investigate the allegations.
Under Ghanaian law, people who participate in mob attacks may face serious criminal charges, including assault, conspiracy and murder, depending on the circumstances and consequences of their actions.
Police assured the public that efforts were continuing to arrest all those connected to the Daboya incident and bring them before the courts.
