Police Investigate Deaths of Two Beninese Women at Tamale Hotel

The Northern Regional Police Command has opened an intensive investigation into the deaths of two women believed to be Beninese nationals after their bodies were discovered inside a hotel room in Tamale.

The incident occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Cab Hospitality Hotel in the Gbewa Residential Area. Hotel management reportedly alerted the police after the women were found unresponsive in one of the rooms.

Police officers quickly arrived at the hotel, secured the premises and began examining the scene for evidence that could help establish what happened before the women died.

The bodies have since been transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where they will be preserved pending autopsies. The post-mortem examinations are expected to determine the official causes of death and provide investigators with further direction.

Following the discovery, the Inspector-General of Police deployed a specialized team from the National Police Headquarters to assist the Northern Regional Police Command. The team includes crime scene specialists, intelligence officers and experienced investigators.

Authorities are working to reconstruct the women’s final movements, confirm their identities and determine the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths. Investigators are also expected to review hotel records, speak with staff and potential witnesses, and examine any available surveillance footage.

The Ghana Police Service is additionally collaborating with the appropriate diplomatic authorities to notify and trace the families of the deceased in Benin.

Police have appealed to members of the public who may have credible information about the incident to contact the nearest police station or call the official emergency hotlines. The public has also been urged to avoid speculation while the investigation remains ongoing.
