The Ghana Police Service has shot and killed a suspected armed robber during an intelligence-led operation at Galoway, an enclave near Agbogbloshie in the Ablekuma Central Municipality of Accra.
According to the police account, intelligence officers tracked the suspect to a hideout in the area on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The suspect allegedly exchanged gunfire with the officers during an attempt to apprehend him. He sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation and was later confirmed dead.
A search conducted at the scene reportedly led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle and 186 rounds of live ammunition.
The weapon and ammunition have been retained as exhibits and are expected to undergo forensic examination as part of the investigation.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy. His identity had not been publicly disclosed at the time of the initial police report.
Investigators are working to determine whether the recovered rifle is connected to other reported robberies or violent crimes in Accra and surrounding communities.
Police have also intensified intelligence-gathering operations to identify and arrest other suspected members of the criminal network believed to be operating within the Agbogbloshie commercial area.
Galoway has reportedly been identified by security authorities as an area requiring heightened surveillance because of suspected criminal activity.
The police have urged members of the public with information about the alleged syndicate or other criminal operations in the area to assist investigators.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the police account of the exchange of gunfire remain subject to the ongoing investigation.
