The Ghana Police Service has announced a temporary three-day suspension of concrete mixer truck operations across Accra and Tema.
The restriction will take effect from Friday, August 28, to Sunday, August 30, 2026, and will apply to all public roads within the two metropolitan areas.
The directive follows a high-level stakeholder meeting organized under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat and chaired by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The suspension is intended to create a 72-hour window for road authorities to remove hardened concrete and other debris from major roads in Accra and Tema.
Concrete and gravel frequently spill from mixer trucks during transit, creating hazardous deposits on expressways and urban roads. Once hardened, the materials form dangerous bumps, damage asphalt surfaces and contribute to the deterioration of public infrastructure.
The deposits also pose serious safety risks to motorists, particularly drivers of smaller passenger and commercial vehicles. They can cause collisions, damage tires and create traffic congestion along busy corridors.
During the suspension, municipal and road agencies are expected to scrape, clear and clean affected routes throughout the capital and the port city.
Institutions involved in the exercise include the Ghana Police Service, National Security Secretariat, Ministry of Roads and Highways and Ghana Highways Authority. Owners and operators of concrete mixer fleets have also been informed of the directive.
Police warned that no concrete mixer truck would be permitted to operate or undertake deliveries within Accra and Tema during the restricted period.
Any truck found violating the directive will be impounded immediately, while its operator could face additional sanctions under the law.
Authorities urged concrete producers, construction companies and transport operators to comply fully with the temporary restriction as efforts continue to improve road safety and protect public infrastructure.
