The initiative, being implemented by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), is aimed at reducing road traffic violations and improving compliance with traffic regulations.
Under the system, cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices will be used to detect motorists who breach traffic laws.
When an offence is detected, the Police will review the incident before issuing an Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) to the vehicle owner or driver through SMS.
The electronic notice will indicate the traffic offence committed and the applicable fine.
The Police Service says the automated system is intended to strengthen enforcement, address indiscipline on the roads and promote safer road use.
It has therefore urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to obey traffic regulations and support the implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH.
According to the Service, improved compliance with traffic laws will help reduce road traffic crashes and related casualties.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Police Headquarters in Accra on September 15, 2026.
