President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York, where he will lead Ghana’s delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The President’s engagements will focus on global development, international cooperation and the promotion of African interests within the international community.
This year’s assembly is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
President Mahama is expected to participate in high-level meetings and side events as part of the General Debate scheduled for September 22 to September 28, 2026.
He is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s national statement on September 24, outlining the country’s position on major international issues and its priorities for global cooperation.
The President will also host events centered on the “Accra Reset” initiative and reparatory justice. The discussions are expected to promote reforms in global governance and advance calls for justice over the historical exploitation of Africans and people of African descent.
His itinerary also includes bilateral meetings with world leaders, engagements with business executives and discussions with members of the Ghanaian community in the United States.
The engagements are expected to provide Ghana with an opportunity to deepen diplomatic and economic relations while strengthening its voice in discussions on sustainable development, peace, security and international cooperation.
