The prosecution has closed its case against former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene and two other accused persons in the trial involving an alleged GH¢49.1 million financial loss to the state.
The accused are facing multiple charges, including stealing, money laundering, using public office for personal gain and causing financial loss to the Republic.
During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses to support its case. They included financial officers, an administrative employee and an investigator from the Economic and Organised Crime Office.
The witnesses presented several documents to the court, including bank statements, deposit slips, company incorporation records and documents relating to various purchases.
Prosecutors allege that money allocated for the procurement of a national cyber defence system was diverted through private bank accounts. The State further claims that portions of the funds were used to acquire real estate and luxury items.
The defence has rejected the allegations of personal embezzlement. Lawyers for the accused have maintained that the transactions and accounts identified by the prosecution were connected to legitimate operations conducted under special national security arrangements.
With the prosecution’s case concluded, the High Court has directed the accused persons to file submissions of no case to answer by September 25, 2026.
A submission of no case seeks to persuade the court that the prosecution has failed to present sufficient evidence requiring the accused persons to open their defence.
The prosecution will have 14 days to respond after receiving the submissions. The case has been adjourned to November 5, 2026.
