PSG Strike Late to Beat Barcelona 4–2 in Champions League Thriller

Paris Saint-Germain scored twice in the closing stages to defeat Barcelona 4–2 at the Parc des Princes, maintaining their perfect start to the Champions League league phase and ending the visitors’ 11-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz delivered the decisive goals after Barcelona had twice fought back to level a gripping Matchday 3 encounter.

Désiré Doué opened the scoring in the 38th minute, advancing towards the edge of the penalty area before firing a low shot into the bottom corner. His strike rewarded PSG after an intense opening period in which both teams pressed aggressively.

Barcelona responded 10 minutes after the restart through 19-year-old full-back Xavi Espart. Making his full Champions League debut, the teenager finished powerfully at the near post to bring the visitors level.

The hosts regained the lead in the 72nd minute when Lucas Hernández rose above the defiance to head home from a corner. Barcelona again found an answer, with Lamine Yamal turning his marker and scoring from a tight angle in the 79th minute.

Their celebrations were short-lived. Two minutes later, Vitinha controlled a clearance on his chest and unleashed a half-volley from outside the penalty area to put PSG ahead for the third time.

Ruiz secured the victory in the 86th minute, arriving at the back post to convert Achraf Hakimi’s low cross and end Barcelona’s hopes of another comeback.

Both sides registered 20 attempts, but PSG were more accurate, putting 14 shots on target compared with Barcelona’s nine. The visitors held 54 per cent of possession but could not contain the hosts’ late attacking surge.

The result was tempered by injury concerns for Luis Enrique, whose forwards Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were forced off during the first half.

Despite those setbacks, PSG moved to nine points from three matches. Barcelona remained on six points and will now turn their attention to the domestic Clásico against Real Madrid.
