French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais are reportedly prepared to sell Ghana international defender Alidu Seidu during the current transfer window.
The 26-year-old has fallen down the defensive hierarchy as Rennes streamline their senior squad ahead of the new campaign.
Seidu has reportedly been training separately alongside other players considered available for departure, including Lilian Brassier and Djaoui Cissé.
Rennes have not publicly announced an asking price, but the club is understood to be willing to consider suitable offers.
Seidu’s Position at Rennes Becomes Uncertain
Seidu joined Rennes from Clermont Foot in January 2024 for an initial transfer fee of approximately €11 million, excluding bonuses.
He originally signed a contract running until June 2028 before receiving a one-year extension during his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.
The Ghanaian is now under contract until June 2029, giving Rennes a strong negotiating position if another club makes an offer.
Despite the length of his deal, changes to the squad and competition for places appear to have opened the door for a possible transfer.

Strong Start Interrupted by ACL Injury
Seidu quickly became an important member of the Rennes squad after arriving from Clermont.
His determination, aggressive defending and willingness to compete for every ball made him popular with supporters.
He was voted the club’s Player of the Month for September 2024 and established himself as one of Rennes’ most consistent performers during the early part of that season.
His progress was abruptly interrupted in November 2024 when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a Ligue 1 match against Lille.
The injury required surgery and ruled him out for the remainder of the 2024–25 campaign.
Rennes Extended Contract During Rehabilitation
Rennes demonstrated confidence in Seidu by extending his contract until 2029 while he was still recovering.
At the time, club officials praised his leadership, reliability, courage and influence within the dressing room.
Seidu also expressed gratitude for the support, saying the extension motivated him to return stronger and repay the confidence placed in him.
He eventually returned to competitive football after a lengthy rehabilitation process, but now faces a fresh challenge as Rennes reorganise their defensive options.
Versatility Could Attract Interest
Seidu’s ability to play in several defensive positions could make him an attractive option for prospective buyers.
Although naturally comfortable at centre-back, he can also operate at right-back and has previously filled in on the left side of defence.
His pace allows him to recover when opponents break behind the defensive line, while his strength and tackling suit teams that prefer an aggressive approach without the ball.
He also brings considerable Ligue 1 experience and has represented Ghana at major international tournaments.
Reports have linked Marseille with an interest in the defender, although no formal agreement or confirmed offer has been announced.
Rennes Reshape Squad Before New Season
Seidu’s possible departure forms part of a wider attempt by Rennes to reduce and restructure their first-team squad.
Several senior players face uncertain futures as the club creates space for new arrivals and adjusts its tactical plans.
Being made available does not guarantee that Seidu will leave. Rennes must receive an acceptable offer, while the defender would also have to agree personal terms with a prospective club.
If no suitable move is completed before the transfer deadline, his contract remains valid until 2029.
For Seidu, the coming weeks could determine whether he remains in Brittany to fight for his place or begins a new chapter elsewhere in European football.
