Cristiano Ronaldo has attracted further scrutiny after reportedly liking an Instagram video in which former Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo criticized Portugal’s players over their treatment of the national team captain.
The support Ronaldo receives from his teammates with the backing Argentina’s players give Lionel Messi. He argued that the Portuguese forward deserved greater respect. Ronaldo’s reported interaction with the post does not, by itself, establish which remarks he endorsed.
The development follows Ronaldo’s departure from Portugal’s camp after coach Jorge Jesus left him as an unused substitute in a 2–1 Nations League victory over Norway.
Reports have linked the disagreement to private assurances about how the coach would address the decision publicly. Those claims remain attributed accounts of discussions between the pair.
Portugal subsequently defeated Denmark 4–2, although questions about Ronaldo continued to feature ahead of their next fixture.
Addressing reporters, Jesus acknowledged the forward’s importance, describing him as a symbol of both the national team and the country.
Reports have also raised the possibility of disciplinary action over Ronaldo’s departure. However, a potential sanction should not be confused with a confirmed suspension or a decision ending his international career.
