Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has renewed his call for the Black Stars to be disbanded and the Ghana Football Association leadership removed following Ghana’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Ningo-Prampram MP, popularly known as Sam George, argued that Ghana needs a comprehensive rebuilding program, even if the resulting intervention leads to a temporary suspension from international football.
Responding on X on September 29, he maintained that his position on the national team had not changed.
“Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for 2 years,” he wrote, urging the country to use the period to rebuild.
His remarks reflected frustration with what he considers inadequate attempts to address the problems affecting Ghanaian football. The proposed two-year suspension formed part of his argument for reform, rather than an announced FIFA sanction.
Ghana appeared to be heading towards victory at the Accra Sports Stadium after Ernest Nuamah converted a penalty in the 27th minute and Felix Afena-Gyan doubled the advantage six minutes later.
However, The Gambia recovered before half-time through Muhammed Badamosi and Omar Colley. Ebrima Colley then scored in the 68th minute and added another in stoppage time to complete the comeback.
The defeat followed Ghana’s opening 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire, leaving the Black Stars without a point after two Group C matches.
Sam George’s intervention adds to growing calls for changes in Ghana’s football administration, with GFA President Kurt Okraku facing renewed demands to step down following the result.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia in an October double-header as they seek to revive their qualification campaign.
