The Ministry of National Security, working with local law-enforcement agencies, has shut down an unauthorized facility suspected of operating as a commercial sex and narcotics distribution center in Tema Community 5.
The intelligence-led operation was conducted late on Friday, July 24, 2026, following surveillance and complaints from residents about activities at the property.
Security operatives reportedly entered the residential building, which authorities allege had been converted into a fortified brothel and a distribution point for illegal drugs.
During a search of the premises, officers seized quantities of substances suspected to be narcotics. Drug-packaging materials, electronic communication devices and an undisclosed amount of cash were also reportedly retrieved.
The seized substances are expected to be submitted for forensic examination to establish their exact composition. Investigators will also analyze the electronic devices and other materials collected from the property as part of efforts to identify people who may have been connected to the alleged operation.
More than a dozen individuals were arrested during the swoop, including several foreign nationals allegedly working at the facility.
Those arrested were taken into custody for screening, profiling and further investigation. Their immigration documents and legal status in Ghana are also expected to be examined by the appropriate authorities.
Security officials have not yet disclosed the identities of the suspects or announced formal charges against them. The allegations remain under investigation, and those arrested are entitled to due process.
Meanwhile, the facility’s head caretaker and property manager reportedly escaped shortly before security personnel gained access to the premises.
The individual has been declared wanted for questioning over the alleged facilitation of illegal commercial sex activities, the harboring of undocumented foreign nationals and the distribution of prohibited substances.
Authorities are conducting follow-up operations to locate the caretaker and determine whether other individuals or organized networks were involved in running or financing the facility.
Investigators are also expected to examine the ownership of the property, how long the alleged activities had been taking place and whether the building had the required permits to operate any form of commercial establishment.
Residents of Tema Community 5 have welcomed the security intervention, saying activities at the property had raised concerns about safety in the neighborhood.
According to some residents, the facility attracted suspicious late-night movement and a regular flow of unfamiliar visitors. They also linked its operation to an increase in disturbances and petty crime in the surrounding area, although those claims have not been independently established.
Community members said they had complained about the property before the operation and expressed relief that the authorities had acted.
Security agencies have appealed to the public to provide information that could assist in locating the wanted caretaker and identifying other people connected to the alleged activities. Members of the public have also been cautioned against confronting suspects themselves.
Investigations remain ongoing, with further arrests and possible criminal charges expected depending on the evidence gathered.
