Sedinam Tamaklo Starts Sentence

The Minority in Parliament has alleged that former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre, Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, was admitted into prison custody on June 24, 2025—15 days after returning to Ghana. According to the Minority, the delay in enforcing the court’s order raises concerns about possible interference with the administration of justice.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, June 25, 2026, Manhyia South MP and member of Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, argued that Tamakloe should have been taken into custody immediately after arriving in Ghana on June 9. He disclosed that she is currently being held in the female wing of a medium-security prison but declined to identify the facility for security reasons. He further alleged that she entered custody “under protest” after reportedly receiving assurances from government officials that efforts were being made to overturn her conviction.

The MP cautioned that any attempt to reverse the court’s decision would undermine judicial independence and amount to political interference in the justice system. He also linked the case to what he described as a broader pattern of selective justice, claiming that prosecutions involving members of the NDC had, in some instances, been discontinued. “The trend cannot be that anytime an NDC member falls foul of the law, the person is protected and prevented from facing the law,” he said, adding that Ghanaians expect equal application of the law. The Minority also pledged to closely monitor the case to ensure that the full sentence imposed by the court is enforced.
