Six Killed, Including Three Children, in Cairo Building Collapse

six dead after 5-storey building collapses in Cairo

Six people, including three children, have died after a five-story residential building collapsed in Cairo’s Hadayek El-Qobba district on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Seven others were injured and taken to Al-Zaitoun Hospital as emergency personnel searched the rubble on Al-Khaleej Street.

The children who died were aged 13, nine and two. The adult victims included two elderly women and a man in his 60s identified as the building’s owner.

Civil defense teams and rescue workers conducted a search lasting approximately 24 hours. Six people were pulled alive from the debris during the initial stages of the operation.

Emergency teams were dispatched after the Cairo Governorate’s operations center received notification of the collapse. Egyptian Red Crescent personnel joined the response, while heavy machinery was deployed to assist the search.

The building dated back to the 1950s and comprised a ground floor and four upper story supported by load-bearing walls.

Authorities evacuated neighboring properties as a precaution and installed temporary steel supports to stabilize adjacent buildings.

Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber ordered an engineering committee to investigate the collapse and assess the site. Public prosecutors and criminal investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding the disaster.

The cause has not yet been established.

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of ageing residential buildings in Egypt, where poor maintenance, unauthorised alterations and breaches of construction regulations have been linked to previous collapses.
